News: TAG Heuer And Longines Releases, Plus Bremont’s Big Surprise
The controversy factor is high this week, with TAG Heuer releasing a sporty tourbillon festooned with Super Mario Kart characters, and Bremont moving into the stainless-steel sport-luxe category. Meanwhile, Longines have kept things classic by launching a new vintage-looking tachymeter chronograph as part of its heritage collection.
Bremont Supernova
British brand Bremont released teasers for several weeks suggesting that it was about to drop something exciting. Finally the drapes have been drawn, revealing three new watches including a totally unexpected steel sports watch with integrated bracelet. The Supernova, which runs on the self-winding ENG375 calibre—a version of their in-house ENG300, which entered the world in 2021 after years in the making—is like nothing Bremont has done before. It also unveiled the Fury and the Audley models, which boast more familiar Bremont looks. Comparisons with a certain iconic AP are unavoidable, but then isn’t that the case with almost any watch in this genre?

Longines Record Heritage Chronograph
Longines has released this new Record Heritage Chronograph, a handsome vintage-inspired watch that celebrates Longines’ impressive 190th anniversary. The watch also marks the Record collection’s first tachometer chronograph. Flaunting a 40mm stainless-steel case with rectangular chronograph pushers and a sleek matte black dial with applied gilt Arabic numerals and hour markers, as well as elegant gilt leaf-shaped hands, this is an understated piece. Powering it is the automatic in-house calibre L895.4—visible through the open caseback—with 37 jewels, 28,800 vph and a hardy 59-hour power reserve. If you’re after a smart yet affordable chronograph that’s perfect for everyday use, this Longines number might be just the ticket!

TAG Heuer Formula 1 x Mario Kart Chronograph
Considering the Formula 1 is a racing chronograph, it makes sense for Mario Kart to grace a 3,000-piece limited-edition run of this model. Featuring a 44mm steel case, this watch is drenched in Mario branding, including Mario behind the wheel in the 9 o’clock sub dial, Mario Kart characters in the date window at 3 o’clock and the Mario Kart logo in Super-Luminova on the ceramic bezel, as well as engraved on the caseback. All of this sits on the black calf leather strap with some sporty red stitching. Sadly, this piece isn’t powered by mushrooms, but the automatic calibre 16, which boasts a decent 42-hour power reserve. Love it or hate it, this piece is sure to enthral Mario fans and suckers for nostalgia the world over upon its release on the 20th of October.

TAG Heuer Formula 1 x Mario Kart Chronograph Tourbillon
It makes sense that this is the pricier version of the F1 x Mario Kart watch once you realise it has a tourbillon and a grade five titanium case. Again, Mario branding is evident from the logo on the ceramic bezel to the tourbillon, which flaunts moving Mario Kart characters including Mario—of course—Spiny Shell and Bullet Bill. The rest of the skeletonised dial features two sub dials and a cool red and black colourway. Powering this number is the COSC-certified automatic Heuer 02T movement which packs a 65-hour power reserve—all visible through the exhibition caseback. Finishing off this Formula 1 is the black calfskin leather strap with a titanium buckle fit with the ‘M’ logo. Limited to just 250 pieces, you’d better be quick off the mark if you want one when it’s released on the 20th of October!
